It said road transporters were offered several solutions to some of their demands, excepting giving up the road toll.
“Giving the need to preserve and obtain financing sources for road infrastructure works, we cannot agree to give up a sure financial resource (the road toll – e.n.) without analyzing and founding a new option. For now, the Ministry of Transportation considers that the CNR (National Road Council – e.n.) representatives have no viable proposition for us to consider any modification of the state budget’s structure and founding resources,” the ministry said.
On April 14, the Romanian road transporters organized ample protests in Bucharest and 18 other cities nationwide, demanding lower taxes, cheaper fuel, quality roads etc.
Their main claim, however, was that the transportation ministry gave up the road toll.
