The leaders of the four Romanian education federations started talks Thursday with education minister Anton Anton. The unionists said the law hiking teacher salaries by 50% will not be negotiated.

Anton invited the leaders of unions in education for talks, as Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu asked him to do so.

Ministry of Education spokesperson Mihaela Suciu said the talks will focus on the interests of students and the minister wishes for negotiations to be rational and balanced.

Tariceanu said the protest actions announced by the unions are not a solution and he asked the education minister to call the unions to dialogue.

Thursday, the leaders of Cartel Alfa and the National Union Bloc met to set the agenda for future actions.

The "Spiru Haret" federation threatened to go on general strike starting November 3, Sed Lex starting November 13, and on November 20, when healthcare union Sanitas initiate protests, all public sector employees affiliated to CNSLR Fratia would go on strike.
