The Romanian leu edged lower against the euro in mid trade Thursday, tracking the currencies in the region, and the central bank’s reference lost 0.54% on the day at 4.1128 units, the lowest rate in six weeks.

For the US dollar, the leu’s indicative reached 3.0898, 1.08% weaker from 3.0567 on Wednesday.

The leu opened at 4.097/4.099 per euro, down from 4.0935/4.0945 per euro at closing Wednesday and further lost ground to an intraday low at 4.1145/4.116 against the European currency.

On the money market Thursday, overnight rates fell to 2.2%2.7% a year, from 2.4%-2.9% a year the day before.
