Gian Sharp, Managing Director al DHL International Romania, said in a press release that this acquisition represents the biggest deal on the Romanian postal services market allowing both DHL and Cargus to reach a strong market share and improve their services via the largest local and international carrier network.

Deutsche Post, a multinational group that provides postal, logistics and financial services, took over Cargus in April via DHL International Romania, in a deal worth some EUR50 million, according to sources on the market.

In September this year, Romania’s competition watchdog cleared Deutsche Post to take over Cargus.

Cargus acquisition is part of the strategy of DHL International Romania to keep its leading position on the local market of express postal services. Talks between the two companies, however, started in 2006 when DHL approached Cargus for the first time.

The agreement signed by the two companies stipulates that Cargus International and DHL International Romania will continue to operate as separate entities and keep their employees, brands and services. Sharp will run the new joint management team, while Augustin Plesea, who filled the position of Cargus president, will keep his position in the new management team as general adviser.

Cargus International SRL operates the postal services and freight transport market and it does not own or control other economic operators.

Cargus is the first private carrier company in Romania and operates a commercial fleet of over 600 units. The company has developed a network of over 90 offices and shipping centers throughout 17 years of activity.

Deutsche Post operates in Romania via DHL International Romania, DHL Logistics and Excel Delamode Logistics.
