„This memorandum settled the cooperation between Romania and Azerbaijan in any project targeting the oil and gas transport from the Caspian area to the European Union, including Romania,” said Condrea, member of a Romanian delegation at Baku.

Condrea said that Azerbaijan may supply liquefied gas to Romania but a decision will be made after the completion of the feasibility study regarding a terminal that Romgaz Medias aims to build in the southeastern town of Constanta. The study may be completed in 2010.

This terminal may annually bring Romania an additional three or four billion cubic meters of gas.

Economy Minister Adriean Videanu said in January that Romania aims to speed up the signup of a trilateral agreement with Azerbaijan and Georgia as regards the gas pipeline project White Stream 2, which targets the liquefied natural gas transport from Georgia to Constanta seaport.

Also, Azeri officials reiterated the possibility to supply 8 billion cubic meters of gas for Nabucco gas pipeline.

Nabucco, linking Turkey to Central Europe via Romania, aims to supply natural gas from the Caspian Sea to Central Europe via Turkey and Romania, bypassing Russia. The project is due for completion in 2014 or 2015.
