In 2007, the Romanian telecom market saw a 14% increase year on year, the lowest growth rate since 2000, the report noted.

However, Romania continues to be one of the fastest developing IT&C markets in Europe, PMR said.

The fastest growing segment on the Romanian telecom market in 2007 was DLISP (data transmission, line rental, internet access), which increased by some 23% on the year to RON1.53 billion. The DLISP segment counted for 11% of the overall IT&C market in Romania, up 1% from 2006.

The DLISP market in Romania is forecast to expand by about 20% (in value terms) in 2008.

In 2007, the mobile telephony segment stood at 67% of the overall IT&C market, a 3% hike from 64% in 2006, boosted by the country’s favorable macroeconomic situation, higher household incomes and lower service prices, the report mentioned.

According to PMR estimations, the number of internet users in Romania went up by almost 90% every year between 2003 and 2007, to reach 5.8 million at the end of last year.
