Romanian MPs have defined marriage as the consensual union between a man and a woman, concluded according to law.
Marriage Defined In Romanian Draft Civil Code As Union Between Man And Woman
The definition was included in the draft Civil Code, after a deputy noted that only engagement had been defined. It too will be arranged only between a man and a woman.
Teodor Andrita, head of the lawmaking department of the Romanian High Council of Magistrates, said, “This solves the problem of homosexuals and lesbians.” Liberal Party deputy Gheoghe Gabor commented, “That is their problem, not ours.”
The act of legally defining the engagement was opposed by senator Attila Cseke, on the grounds that a preliminary stage of marriage does not require regulation. His amendment was rejected by the other members of the commission debating the new Code.
Discussions on the new Codes of justice began a week ago in specialized parliamentary commissions. One sub-commission, led by MP Daniel Buda, will discuss the Civil and Civil procedure Codes, and another, led by MP Victor Ponta, will analyze the Criminal and Criminal procedure Codes.
