Council Of The EU To Discuss Romania’s Schengen Accession Again In September

The Justice and Home Affairs Council of the European Union on Thursday adopted the conclusions on the full application of the Schengen acquis by Romania and Bulgaria, noting that the issue will be raised again soon, but no later than September 2011.

The JHA Council, made up of the member states’ ministers of interior and of justice, will discuss Romania and Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen Area in its next meeting, in September 2011.

According to the Romanian Interior Ministry, the adopted document concludes that Romania is ready to join the Schengen Area.

People close to the matter told MEDIAFAX that the document also says „the two states’ evaluation has been completed.”

The European Parliament on Wednesday adopted a report by MEP Carlos Coelho recommending the accession of Romanian and Bulgaria to the Schengen Area.
