Several local party leaders in the country’s eastern region of Moldavia urged Geoana to run for president later this year, people close to the matter told MEDIAFAX Sunday. They also said Geoana neither refused their suggestion, nor did he say he would run for president.
According to the same sources, the Social Democratic Party plans to order an opinion poll to establish which of potential candidates for the position of head of state would have the best shot in the elections.
According to the party’s statute, the candidate for president is voted by the party’s congress.
