Romania Proposes Porumboiu’s „Police, adjective” For 2010 Academy Awards

The voting commission consisted of film critics film Magda Mihailescu, Cristina Corciovescu, Dana Duma, Eugenia Voda, Mihai Chirilov, Dinu Tanase and Eugen Atanasiu, most of whom voted for Porumboiu’s film.

The film won the FIPRESCI and the Jury’s award in the Un Certain Regard section of this year’s Cannes Film Festival. "Police, adjective" also won the Transylvania Trophy at this years’ edition of the Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF).

In 2006, director Porumboiu won the Camera d’Or award at the Cannes Film Festival for the feature film “A fost sau n-a fost?”/“East of Bucharest”.

Oscar nominees will be announced on February 2, 2010.

Last year, Romania proposed Nae Caranfil’s “Restul e tacere”/“The Rest is Silence” for best film in a foreign language, and in 2007, the proposition was Cristian Mungiu’s Palm d’Or winner "4 luni, 3 saptamani si 2 zile"/“4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days”.

The 82nd edition of the U.S. Academy Awards will take place on March 7, 2010 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.
