Romanian Orthodox Church To Borrow EUR200M To Build New Cathedral
Campineanul said four Church committees will evaluate the seven projects submitted on May 31, from the perspective of architecture, resilience, installations and economics. The winner will be announced on June 30 and the Church will begin procedures towards obtaining construction authorization and negotiations for the necessary funds, he added.
The patriarchal vicar bishop also said the initial EUR200 million will only cover the cost of construction, while another EUR200 million will probably be used to decorate the Cathedral’s interior. He added that the loan will be repaid through donations made by parishioners, through a campaign called „10 euro for the Cathedral.”
„Because we will not use public money, but private funds, we will hold a small international auction,” Campineanul said.
After the winning project is announced, the runner up will receive EUR40,000 and third place will receive EUR30,000, from the Church’s Cathedral fund.
The Cathedral will be 120 meters long, 70 meters wide and will stand 120 meters tall. The building will have 15 offices and a capacity of five thousand people during services.
