Chitac’s lawyer, Dan Ioan presented the court with several medical documents that indicate the former general suffers from a heart condition.
The medical examination has a “strict goal”, to establish whether Chitac suffers from a serious illness that will make impossible for him to serve his sentence in prison, according to the prosecutor in charge.
On Tuesday, the Court allowed the request for a medical expertise submitted by the other defendant in the case, former general Victor Athanasie Stanculescu.
Last week, Romania’s Supreme Court sentenced Chitac and Stanculescu to 15 years in jail each for their role in killing demonstrators during the 1989 anti-communist revolution.
