In December, the number of new cars registered in Romania decreased 21.9%, to 18,852 units from 24,143 units in the same month the year before, close to the EU average.
The Romanian auto market fell to the second spot by new car registrations among the ten states that joined the EU starting with 2004. Romania was overtaken by Poland, which registered an increase of over 9% last year.
At the level of the 27 EU member states, new car registrations decreased 7.9% in 2008, to 14.3 million units, the lowest level in 15 years, ACEA said.
