Magyar Democratic Union Backs Coalition With Romanian Democrat Liberals

Romanian democrat liberals prefer to have the Magyar Democratic Union in any of their Government structure scenarios, which means that the ethnic party is offering support to a democrat liberal Prime Minister, democrat liberal leader Emil Boc said after talks with the Magyars on Monday morning.

“Our option is to have the Magyar Democratic Union in any Government formula we come up with,” Boc said, adding the Union will also back a democrat liberal Prime Minister, since it has offered its support for this coalition following today’s talks.

Magyar leader Marko Bela said the two parties have compatible governing agendas, but the Union would accept to be part of a minority Government too, although the Government had better benefit from a parliamentary majority.

Marko said at the end of the meeting he will ask his peers in the Standing Committee of the Magyar Democratic Union to continue talks with “peers in the Democratic Liberal Party” to build up a governing coalition.
