Romania Not To Change Main Taxes In 2009 – Fin Min

The Romanian Finance Ministry plans no changes in the main taxes, namely the flat tax, the value added tax or social security contributions for 2009, finance minister Gheorghe Pogea said Thursday.

He added, however, that the introduction of a new lump tax is still in discussion.

Pogea did not specify if the main taxes will be modified as of next year.

The authorities intend to revise the Fiscal Code in the next months, and the new version should be enforced as of January 1, 2010.

Romania agreed Wednesday with the International Monetary Fund an economic program supported by a EUR12.95 billion loan under a two-year stand-by arrangement. The total value of the financial package that includes loans from the E.U., the World Bank and other financial institutions is of EUR19.95 billion.
