Basescu warned the government on Wednesday that Romanians are often subject to discrimination in the counties of Harghita and Covasna, central Romania, where the mayors are Hungarians.
The head of state also said Hungarians in Romania must not feel neglected just because the Hungarian minority party UDMR is not part of Romania’s ruling coalition, stressing this could be a good opportunity for the Romanian government to prove it can defend the interests of the Hungarian minorities, even if UDMR is not part of the ruling coalition.
