"From the calculations of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the excise will be reduced by RON0.65 per liter for a quantity of 48 liters per hectare. We would like to apply the measure as soon as possible. We hope to promote the government decision in this respect in two weeks,” the minister said.
"I know farmers were expecting a more significant cut and I hope we’ll be able to achieve that later on,” Ciolos added.
Finance minister Varujan Vosganian said Wednesday the government allotted RON100 million in this year’s second budget revision to support a lowering in excise duties for diesel fuel used in farming.
Excise duties for diesel fuel increased on Jan 1 by 5.6%, to EUR325/ton, or EUR274.6/1,000 liters.
Romania required approval from the European Commission to lower excise duties on diesel fuel used in agriculture.
