Antonescu said the Liberal Party is open to improvements brought to the lower house’s regulations but considers such issues are separate from the fact that Anastase „can no longer run such an important institution after what she did with the vote on the pension bill”.

Opposition liberals and social democrats have accused Anastase of rigging a vote on the country’s pension reform bill and have called on prosecutors to start criminal investigations against her for fraud.

Following the vote on the pension bill, opposition lawmakers have repeatedly boycotted the Chamber of Deputies’ activity and called on the speaker to resign.

Anastase said last week political group leaders in the Chamber of Deputies had put forth several propositions to amend the institution’s regulations in an effort to unlock the house’s activity, but declined to elaborate saying changes were still being discussed.
