ING Revises Down Romania’s 2010 Inflation Forecast To 4.1%

ING revised downwards its forecast on Romania's annual inflation to 4.1% in December 2010 from a previous forecast of 4.9%, due to the country's announced public spending cuts.

However, a poor farming year, a weaker leu and higher fuel prices may still raise inflationary pressures, ING analysts said in a report.

Also, a potential increase of the value added tax rate poses a high risk on the inflation target, the report said.

ING analysts believe the central bank has a good chance to meet its inflation target this year.

Romania’s central bank targets an annual inflation of 3.5% with a one percentage point variation band around the target.
