Boc said the government, MPs and representatives of the Justice Ministry, the High Council of Magistrates, the National Anticorruption Department and prosecutors have been working together to draw up the criminal Code, adding the draft code is good, but not perfect, as there are no perfect laws, excepting for the “divine” ones.

As to the civil Code, after numerous meetings with representatives of the civil society and media, the parliament committee in charge with drafting the code said the final version satisfies both the interests in protecting private life and press freedom.

Democrat liberal deputy president Gheorghe Flutur said Monday that the government coalition decided to empower the executive to make a decision on whether to assume responsibility for the codes.

On Tuesday, the coalition “Stop the Codes!” said will withdraw from the debates on the new codes and will send their observations directly to the presidency, denouncing the parliament debates as mere “simulation.”

The “Stop the Codes!” coalition comprises tens of NGOs and professional associations that want adoption procedures stopped on lack of real public debates.
