Schrage said Ukraine will honor the decision made tomorrow morning, as Ukraine has already issued a statement saying the country’s government intends to reconsider its stance on the Channel. Schrage added that the Ukrainians will basically halt works as the recommendations and amendments made included in the decision will be considered .
On the other hand, Ukrainian environment minister adviser Iryna Makarenko said that Ukraine sent an official letter, signed by the deputy prime minister, to the delegates in the Espoo Convention meeting in Bucharest, which states the country’s stance on the Bystroe issue.
Adding she is not warranted to provide further details, Iryna Makarenko said that, in her opinion, a compromise has been reached, as the Ukrainian side vowed not to initiate phase two in the construction of the channel until the obligations resulting from the Espoo Convention are met.
