Romania Backs Europe Sport Police

Romanian sport officials on Friday discussed during a meeting of the National Committee against Violence in Sport a project initiated by EU regarding setting up a European police force to protect sport.

Mircea Sandu and Octavian Bellu, heads of Romania’s football federation FRF and the national sport agency ANS, respectively pointed out the significance of aligning to EU norms on fighting violence in sport.  

According to an ANS statement, the idea of a European sport police was aired during a meeting between EU Justice Commissioner Franco Fratini and FIFA head Joseph Blatter.

The European officials are willing to allocate EUR10 million to develop this project, the statement noted.
