Family Of Late Romanian Musician Might Stage Protest During NATO Summit
"We feel mocked and humiliated," the artist’s son, Teo Peter junior, told a news conference Tuesday. "I am furious, because although we are U.S. allies in NATO, we are mocked and treated as second-hand citizens,” he added.
Teo Peter junior said that after his father death, U.S. justice has done nothing to properly sanction the U.S. marine who caused the accident. Moreover, he said, the family was terribly insulted when the U.S. offered to pay “ridiculously small” moral damages.
The Romanian musician died on December 4, 2004 in a traffic accident when U.S. marine Christopher VanGoethem ran a red light and hit the taxi in which Peter was.
VanGoethem was court-martialed but was cleared of negligent homicide charges.
