Romanian Govt To Approve Single-Digit Salary Hike In 2008-PM

The exact salary hike will be established by government ordinance.

Employees with the educational and healthcare systems will be granted higher salaries, while the fields that saw significant raises in 2007 will register moderate hikes, Tariceanu said.

He said certain personnel categories, such as diplomats, will not benefit from salary hikes in 2008.

“Any salary growth beyond a certain level allowed by the economic context would trigger a chain reaction, including the possibility for the national currency to take a further dive,” Tariceanu said.
