In the first nine months of the year, RAR checked 284,352 used cars, of which 72,000 in September alone, and found deficiencies in the vehicles’ breaking system, steering and pollution standards.
In January-August, RAR checked 212,352 cars, of which 28,323 failed the tests, leading to a 13.3% rejection rate.
The institution’s technical manager, Flavius Campeanu, said Tuesday the number of registered second hand cars could reach 300,000 by the end of the year, and 500,000 in 2009.
