Romania 1H Private Debt Up 134% On Yr, To RON1.69B

Romania’s total private debt more than doubled in the first six months of the year, reaching 1.69 billion lei (EUR1=RON3.5010), the central bank said Tuesday.

The country’s first-half private debt was up 134% on the year from the RON723.79 billion private debt registered in the first half of 2007.

In June, private debt stood at RON1.22 billion for domestic currency denominated loans, up 146% on the year, while private debt for foreign currency-denominated loans increased 118%, reaching RON474.25 million.

The largest private debt, RON487.99 million was registered in capital city Bucharest, where private lending stood at RON61.87 billion.

Romanian private lending in June stood at RON178.94 billion, of which RON80.13 billion was granted in domestic currency.
