Moldova Is Attempting To Provoke Romania- Senate Chairman

He said Romania should not escalate tensions and display calm and prudence but take action against Moldova’s provocative accusations. He added the Republic of Moldova’s decision to reintroduce travel visas for Romanians is a sign of panic among authorities in Chisinau.

"I regret that communist authorities in Chisinau are trying to blame Romania for their own inability to ensure a democratic regime and civilized dialogue in Moldova,” Geoana said.

He also said Moldovan president Vladimir Voronin’s decision to declare the Romanian ambassador to Chisinau persona non grata is a sign of direct hostility toward Romania.

Voronin said during a meeting with representatives of the civil society that Romania is involved in the anticommunist street riots that occurred and continue in the Moldovan capital. He also said the Romanian ambassador was declared persona non grata and Moldova would reintroduce travel visas for Romanians.
