Moldovan Band Zdob şi Zdub Drop Suit Against Reckless Driver, Claim Damages

Members of Moldovan hardcore band Zdob si Zdub dropped a criminal lawsuit against the driver who injured them in a car accident last summer, but will claim damages in a civil suit, Pro TV Chisinau reported.

Moldovan Band Zdob şi Zdub Drop Suit Against Reckless Driver, Claim Damages

The band required the Chisinau Court of Appeals to close the case against the driver who crashed into the band’s microbus in June last year, which left band members severely injured.  
 
Lead singer Roman Iagupov suffered back injuries and had pieces of glass in his eyes, the drummer has a serious leg injury and the band’s sound person broke his clavicle and suffered a concussion.
 
"Today (Wednesday, March 25 -e.n.), members of the band Zdob si Zdub withdrew their criminal complaint and the Court of Appeals ended procedures in this case,” said Alexei Tighinean, the band’s lawyer. "This decision was taken to end the criminal trial and start a civil lawsuit and claim financial damages,” he added.
 
Zdob si Zdub is a Moldovan band formed in 1994 whose work for the last several years combines elements of hip-hop (especially sampling) and hardcore punk with traditional Moldovan and Romanian music and Roma music. The band’s name is onomatopoeic for the sound of a drum beat. They opened for Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1994 as part of the Russian MTV-Party, held in Red Square in Moscow, Russia.
 
The band represented Moldova in the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing 6th.
 
The band has had numerous tours in Russia, Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Germany the Netherlands, Serbia, Hungary and Italy.
The band’s current line-up consists of Roman Iagupov (vocals, flute, ocarina and other ethnic instruments), Valeriu Mazilu (trumpet), Mihai Gincu (bass), Victor Dandes (trombone, accordion, ethnic instruments), Anatol Pugaci (drums, sometimes bass), Sergiu Vatavu (guitar) and Igor Buzurniuc (guitar).
