"I really do not see a crisis between Italy and Romania… I only see the need for a good cooperation between the Italian and Romanian authorities," Frattini said Tuesday.
Frattini said that the Italian decree only enforces a European directive stipulating the expulsion of all people who commit crimes and thus, represent a threat to the public safety.
Frattini also pointed out that he strongly backed Romania’s accession to the European Union.
"The reason why the Italian citizens got so mad is that we just cannot put up with people who commit crimes on out territory," Frattini concluded.
