According to the aforementioned sources, the talks will be scheduled for next week, and will revolve around the Commission’s review, which criticized the bills as weakening the country’s fight against corruption.
Earlier on Friday, the president had requested the resignation of Justice Minister Tudorel Toader over the review, stating that he acted “irresponsibly” on the matter.
The Council of Europe’s advisory board, the Venice Commission, recommended Romanian lawmakers to revise the recent amendments brought to judicial bills, stating that they weaken the country’s ability to fight corruption and the independence of the judicial system.
