Romanian President To Summon Parliamentary Parties For Talks On Judicial Bills – Sources

Romania President Klaus Iohannis intends to summon representatives of parliamentary parties to the Presidential Palace for talks on the ongoing judicial reform, in the context of criticism received on the subject from the Venice Commission, political sources told MEDIAFAX.

According to the aforementioned sources, the talks will be scheduled for next week, and will revolve around the Commission’s review, which criticized the bills as weakening the country’s fight against corruption.

Earlier on Friday, the president had requested the resignation of Justice Minister Tudorel Toader over the review, stating that he acted “irresponsibly” on the matter.

The Council of Europe’s advisory board, the Venice Commission, recommended Romanian lawmakers to revise the recent amendments brought to judicial bills, stating that they weaken the country’s ability to fight corruption and the independence of the judicial system.
