The survey, drawn up by online marketing agency Standout, sketches the profile of the Romanian reader of blogs and shows the potential influence of this online communication medium.

The survey found that blogs are mostly accessed by young people, usually aged 20 – 35 (73.7%), with education and revenues above average. The most important blog reader segment is that of people aged 20-25 (36.7%), followed by the 25-31 age group (27.1%) and the 31-45 age group (18.6%). Only 13.2% of teenagers in the 15-19 age group read blogs.

Blog readers are experienced internet users and interact significantly with the blogs they read. Over 50% of them have been using the internet for at least seven years, while 34.9% have been using it for 4-7 years and 12.4% have been using it for 1-3 years.

As far as interaction is concerned, 44.7% of internet users have commented at least once on the blog where they filled in the questionnaire the survey is based on and 6.6% of readers are very active users, who comment on the blogs they read very often.

Readers are loyal to the blogs they read and 52.5% access their favorite blogs daily or several times a day, while 24.3% read their favorite blogs a few times a week, 10.6% once a week and 12.5% read blogs once a month or more seldom.

The main reasons why internet users read blogs are entertainment (70% of the respondents) and news (32.7%), while 16.3% read blogs to nurture their feeling of belonging to a community.

"The Romanian blog reader is young, with education and revenues above average, is experienced with the internet, interacts with the blogs read and other readers, is loyal to favorite blogs and admits their influence,” said Standout manager Ionut Oprea.

The survey was conducted in February 2009 and had 8,200 respondents.
