Commercial Breeding Of Pigs Banned In Romanian Cities
The draft decision, developed by the Romanian Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA), sets two systems for swine breeding, namely the non-professional one, and the commercial-industrial one.
Swine breeding in the non-professional system implies that the peasant is not allowed to sell the meat obtained, they are only allowed to use it for family consumption.
In addition, the live pig can only be sold in the locality containing the household.
"The non-professional system is represented by swine farms where pigs are raised in traditional fashion; swine breeding in this system is only allowed in the rural areas, and it is forbidden in meadows, forests, towns and cities," says the draft decision.
Pigs raised non-professionally only leave the household when they are sold.
The strategy also states specific bio-security rules for each breeding system and norms for the commercialization of live pigs and the products obtained from them.
The bio-security rules for commercial farms are stricter than for households, but the meat obtained can be sold on a national level.
The 2008 strategy also mentions further animal vaccination.
