Romanian PM Lowers Wages Of Public Agency Managers
He said wages of presidents of public institutions cannot exceed the ones than of state secretaries.
The government also decided to limit the participation of dignitaries to a single board of administration with public institutions.
The government decision has been signed and enforced “as of now,” Tariceanu said.
The move followed media reports on disproportionate wages paid to the heads of public institutions compared to average salaries earned by Romanian citizens.
A secretary of state receives a monthly gross salary of 6,691 lei (EUR1= RON 3.7677) as of October 1, based on an emergency ordinance approved by the Government.
As to institutions partly financed from the state budget, Tariceanu said the decision cannot be applied, due to the “very intricate” legislation in the field and the existence of collective labor contracts which have to be observed.
“What I can tell you, is that managers of those commercial companies, national boards and companies, will earn their salaries based on efficiency,” Tariceanu said.
