Romanian Mountain Rescuer Caught In Avalanche In C Romania Found Dead

Rescuers said the man was found buried one meter and a half under the snow, about 250 meters away from where he had been hit by the avalanche.

The man was a very experienced skier and was himself a mountain rescuer. Search operations were resumed Sunday morning after they were halted Saturday evening at nightfall.

The man was in a group of seven skiers when the avalanche occurred and he was the only one caught under the snow.

Local meteorologists had said at the beginning of the week avalanche risk in the Fagaras Mountains was rated four on a one-to-five scale and more snowfall was expected throughout the week.
