Romanian Govt Already Considered Most Demands In Opposition’s Simple Motion – Fin Min

Most of the demands senators included in the simple motion on the poor living standard, such as fighting poverty, cutting budget expenses and increasing the minimum wage, have already been solved or are being considered by the government, economy and finance minister Varujan Vosganian said.

He said the government has already taken measures to increase the minimum wage as of this year, reminding the social democrat government in 2003 eliminated the obligation to correlate wages with the minimum consumer basket.

The government has also initiated a draft law regarding the wages of state employees, for which it would need a stable majority in parliament.

"The law must be voted regardless of the temptations of an election year and needs an organic majority that cannot be met very soon,” Vosganian said.

The Senate on Tuesday enacted 74 to 33 votes the simple motion “Put an end to poor living standards! Put an end to the irresponsibility in the energy sector,” initiated by members of the leftist opposition Social Democratic Party, or PSD, and of the Conservative Party, or PC.

Senate chairman Nicolae Vacaroiu said the demands in the motion are obligatory for the government.
