Romanian Liberal Party Proposes En Bloc Resignation Of Opposition MPs

Romanian Liberal Party leader Crin Antonescu said Monday evening that, since the ruling coalition does not agree to early elections, liberal MPs suggest the opposition's deputies and senators should all resign, but talks will be held with the other parties before a final decision.

The liberal leader argued that the current legislature has for a long time lacked legitimacy and such a decision would present the public with a clear delineation of the forces in Romanian politics.

The Liberal Party will discuss this issue with their opposition partners in the Social Democratic Party and Conservative Party, to find a common course of action. „We would want it to be this one,” said Antonescu.

He added that the party will also consult members of the civil society and the public.

Earlier, people close to the matter told MEDIAFAX that several liberal MPs informed Antonescu they are prepared to resign from the legislature; among them were Ludovic Orban and Mircea Diaconu.
