Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Robin van Persie ensured the win for the ‘clockwork orange’ in minutes 54 and 87, respectively.

Romania’s coach Victor Piturca said the team leaves Euro 2008 with heads held high, after it secured draws with world champion Italy and vice-champion France.

“It was a tough game. Not losing the first two matches against the world champions and the vice champions has been an achievement for our team. We were very close to making it in the quarter-final,” Piturca said, referring to a penalty shot striker Adrian Mutu failed to send into the net in the match against Italy.
