The minister Monday asked president Basescu, Prime Minister Tariceanu, the presidents of the two Chambers of Parliament as well as other officials to attend the launching of the education laws.
The law drafts in the education sector were finalized this year after they were debated by the representatives of the Ministry of Education together with unions and the academic community. The law package contains the Pre-University Education Act, the Higher Education Act and the Status of the Personnel Working in the Education Field.
The minister said that the pre-university education system would be decentralized in a constructive manner. “Schools will be able to choose in a 25%-30% manner the optional subjects to be taught to children. Moreover, high-schools will organize their own admission tests,” said the minister.
Moreover, graduates who wish to teach will need a two year preparation period to see if they are fit or not for the job.
The minister also said that education units with high results would be extended while those that lack quality may be closed down.
Compulsory education is to start from the age of three and finish at 16, comprising of three years of kinder garden, a preparatory year, four years in primary school and the rest in high-school.
The education law had to be launched on October 24, but was postponed several times.
