Eligible prosecutors will be able to file their candidacies until April 25, 17.30 local time. Those who meet legal requirements will be interviewed by Justice Minister Tudorel Toader on May 6 and 7.
Results are scheduled to be announced on May 8.
The term of current general prosecutor Augustin Lazar will expire on April 28. Lazar was rejected a new term after the minister decided that none of the candidates in the first selection were suitable for the role.
According to Romanian law, the country’s general prosecutor is nominated by the justice minister and appointed by the country’s president.
