New President At The Romanian High Council Of Magistrates
Barbulescu was the only candidate for the position.
Judge Anton Pandrea said that, according to a legislative amendment on November 12, 2007, those who run for the leadership of the Council need to present a management plan specific to the position they target.
Thus, after being voted by the council members, Barbulescu will present the management plan.
Journalists were asked to leave the room during debates on the position of president. As soon as the vote is announced, the council will proceed to the election of the Council vice president, a position targeted by Gratiana Isac, from the Organized Crime Investigation Division (DIICOT), according to sources within the council.
Romanian president Traian Basescu presided the first part of the meeting, hearing an activity report of the institution. Basescu said he would not attend the second part of the meeting, which includes the elections for council president and vice president.
Gratiana Isac was unanimously elected vice president of the council.
