"We are ready to launch the ferry once the road Nikopol-Pleven is completed," he said, adding that there are ten kilometers left.
Construction works are due end September, thus the new ferry line will be launched in October, although it was planned initially for September.
The trip will last between eight and ten minutes, Zhelazkov said cited by BTA, and the two ferry boats will perform daily 12 trips both ways, carrying up to six heavy vehicles and 30 light vehicles.
The total value of the project reaches EUR5 million. The contracts for the construction of the new ferry complex were signed by Bulgaria and Romania in 2004, and works began a year later, encountering several delays.
There are three ferry lines between the two countries currently: Vidin -Calafat, Silistra-Calarasi and Oriahovo-Bechet. Another project eyes the route Lom-Rastu.
The two states are connected by the Ruse-Giurgiu bridge and the second bridge, Vidin-Calafat, will be completed in 2010.
