The Constitutional Court admitted, in December 2007, president Traian Basescu’s challenge of the government’s draft uninominal vote law, dubbing some of its provisions unconstitutional. The court’s decision targets the articles regarding the additional lists and the one that states early elections can also be organized in case of administrative-territorial reorganization.
Thus, the Parliament has 45 days to reexamine the mentioned provisions and to put them in accord with the Court’s decision.
Romanian president Traian Basescu sent letters to all parliament party leaders, asking them to support the majority uninominal voting system in two rounds of elections.
