The new Herta Muller series will be launched at the Romanian Athenaeum, with three books written by the author: "Leaganul respiratiei", "Calatorie intr-un picior" and "Omul e un mare fazan pe lume" (working title).
Herta Muller was born on August 17, 1953, in Nitchidorf, near western Romanian city Timisoara. Since she moved to Germany, Muller received multiple German and international awards, including the Ricarda Huch Award (1987), Kleist (1994) and Joseph Breitbach (2003), the European Aristeion Award (1995) and IMPAC Dublin Literary Award (1998). Starting with 1999, she was a three times nominee for Germany on the list of the Nobel Prize for literature.
Within the same anniversary campaign, Humanitas will launch books from famous Humanitas authors, such as Neagu Djuvara and Mircea Cartarescu.
The publishing house founded in 1990 by Gabriel Liiceanu became, in 20 years, the Humanitas Group, a cultural holding formed of the publishing houses Humanitas, Humanitas Fiction, Humanitas Multimedia (leader on the Romanian audiobook market), as well as the Humanitas Bookstores, a chain that includes 16 bookstores.
Humanitas will organize, throughout the year 2010, a series of events dedicated to its 20th anniversary, including book and audio book launches and photo galleries.
The events will conclude in November, with a showcase of the latest books launched by Humanitas.
