The event foregoes the official opening of the plant that according to general manager John Guerry of Nokia Romania will take place this year.
In March 2007, Nokia announced it will open a mobile phones production unit in Romania, invested estimated at EUR60 million. The plant is located in industrial park of Tetarom Cluj-Napoca, park that is financed through PHARE funds.
Two days ago, Guerry asked labor minister Paul Pacuraru to improve the legislation in the labor sector, referring to stipulations from the Labor Code.
Pacuraru said that 200 people have already been hired to work in the Nokia production line and that the first phone to be produced in Romania will be launched next week.
By the end of 2008, Nokia mulls hiring 1,200 employees in the production line and 100 people in management positions.
The Finnish giant reported last year a net profit of EUR7.2 billion, up 67% on the year, with net sales rising 24% to EUR51.1 billion.
