Romanian Senators Say Old Tractors Out, New Tractors In

The legislative initiative belongs to a group of social democrat MPs, including social democrat leader Mircea Geoana, and it mentions the one-time grant of RON17,000 for the dismantling of a tractor older than 12 years, to those who enter the program.

Even though the initiators requested the allocation of RON51 million from the National Environment Fund for this program, after talks in the economic committee between the signatories of the draft law and Environment Fund Administration president Mihai Toti, it was set that the annual sum allocated would be RON21 million.

In order to benefit from this program, namely the RON17,000, any owner of a used tractor, needs to meet, cumulatively, several conditions: registration with a valid producer for the acquisition of a new tractor; turning in the used tractor for cassation to a company; obtaining a destruction certificate; radiation of the used tractor and the acquisition of the new tractor from a valid producer.
