Romanian Judoka Alina Dumitru Wins Gold At Euro Champs In Lisbon

Romanian judoka Alina Dumitru retained her title at women’s under 48 kilograms category at the 2008 European Judo Championships held in Lisbon, Portugal, after defeating French Frederique Jossinet in the competition finals Friday.

Dumitru won all three fights in Group A at women’s under 48 kilograms. In the preliminary round, she fought Belarusian Leshchanka Volha, while in the semis she defeated Bogdanova Liudmila of Russia.
 
Dumitru is the only Romanian judoka already qualified in the summer Olympics at Beijing.
 
At the category under 52 kilograms, Ioana Dinea Aluas of Romania will fight British Georgina Singleton in a match over the bronze medal.
