Romanians May Redeem Four Vouchers Per New Car In 2011 Clunkers Program – Minister

The 2011 edition of Romania's clunkers program will permit the use of four vouchers worth 3,000 lei each (EUR1=RON4.2862) to purchase a new car, instead of three vouchers worth RON3,800 each, like in 2010, Environment Minister Laszlo Borbely announced Tuesday.

These changes will come into effect on February 1, 2011, when the new clunkers program is due to begin. „I’m sure next year’s edition of the program will be successful. This year, 181,403 cars of our target of 190,000 have been scrapped and 53,554 cars were bought, including 23,297 which were locally-made,” said Borbely.

Meanwhile, the minister decided to extend the validity of vouchers issued for the 2010 edition of the program until January 31, 2011. The vouchers were due to become void on November 23, but almost 31,000 remain unused on the market.
