They also said Ford Romania set off operating proceedings needed to produce Transit Connect commercial vehicles, which are only assembled at the plant now, adding a new small vehicle, neither Ford Fiesta nor Ford Ka, is slated for manufacturing in the upcoming period.
Most cars to be produced at Craiova plant will be delivered to Ford partners in Europe.
Ford Romania officials also said the plant’s car production volume will go hand in hand with the demand on the automobile market, which is still low.
Once it reaches full output capacity, the plant will produce up to 300,000 vehicles and 300,000 engines per year.
In September this year, Ford Romania officials said the plant in Craiova would produce 1,000-2,000 vehicles until the end of the year. Ford Romania employs 3,600 people.
Ford plans to invest EUR675 million in its plant in Craiova and turn it into a last generation facility.
