Tarom Aircraft Involved In Serious Incident On Bucharest’s Otopeni Intl Airport

Valentin Iordache, spokesperson of Bucharest’s "Henri Coandă" Otopeni international airport, said Sunday in a press conference that a Boeing 737 hit a vehicle in charge with the airport’s beacon system while operating its takeoff maneuver.

Iordache stressed that the incident is very serious as the aircraft was seriously damaged.
 
Iordache said that the vehicle belongs to a private company administrating the airport’s beacon system.
 
When the incident occurred, two people were standing near the vehicle, but they were not injured.
 
According to Iordache, the representatives of the Civil Aviation Department started an investigation to settle the causes of the incident.
 
As for the passengers, Iordache said they were evacuated through all emergency exists and everything went well.
 
The Boeing 737 of Romania’s airliner Tarom hit a vehicle located on the runway of Otopeni airport while operating its takeoff maneuver towards Egypt’s Sharm El Sheikh, but no passenger was injured.
 
The incident occurred around 11:30 local time and the 120 passengers on board of the aircraft were evacuated through a special procedure.
 
As the aircraft was seriously damaged, the flight was temporarily suspended and passengers will reach their destination on board of another aircraft that will soon take off and head for Egypt.
