Patrolling near a Rroma camp, which houses some 1,000 nomads of different nationalities, but mostly Italian, police recognized one man for whom they had an arrest warrant. When they placed the man under arrest, the police officers were attacked by some 300 Rromas.
The police took refuge in the car and requested backup. Ten police cars arrived at the scene shortly and took several hours to restore order. In the meantime, the man police was supposed to arrest managed to flee.
Police started an investigation to identify the 300 people, who will be charged with resisting arrest and assault.
